The structure.
- A strong impulse move (the pole).
- A short, orderly pullback in a small channel (the flag).
- A breakout in the direction of the pole.
Entry and target.
Enter on a close outside the flag. A common target projects the pole's length from the breakout point. Place the stop on the other side of the flag.
When flags fail.
Flags that retrace more than half of the pole, or form against higher-timeframe structure, fail more often. Keep risk per trade small so a failed breakout is just a normal loss.
