The formula.
Pivot (P) = (High + Low + Close) ÷ 3, using the previous day.
R1 = 2P − Low, S1 = 2P − High. R2 = P + (High − Low), S2 = P − (High − Low).
How to trade them.
- Price above P: bias long, R1 as first target.
- Price below P: bias short, S1 as first target.
- Rejections at R1/S1 with a candle confirmation are cleaner than blind limit orders.
- Place stops beyond the next level, then size the trade from that stop.
Where they fail.
On strong trend days price slices through levels. Combine pivots with market structure, and stand aside around big news if your plan says so.
