The math of drawdown recovery.
Losing money is mathematically harder to recover from than it is to lose. A 10% loss requires an 11% gain to break even. A 50% loss requires a 100% gain just to get back to where you started.
This is why protecting your capital is more important than chasing profits. Small, consistent gains are the path to long-term funding.
Managing the 3% daily limit.
At MixFunded, we have a 3% daily drawdown floor to help you maintain discipline. To manage this safely, you should never risk more than 0.5% to 1% per trade.
If you risk 0.5% per trade, you would need to lose 6 trades in a row within a single day to hit the limit. This gives you plenty of 'breathing room' for normal market fluctuations.
Position sizing is non-negotiable.
- Always use a Stop-Loss: Never trade 'naked.' A stop-loss is your insurance policy.
- Calculate based on Equity: As your account grows, your 1% risk dollar amount grows. If you lose, it shrinks, naturally slowing down your losses.
- Respect the Spread: Always account for the spread and slippage when setting your stop-loss.
Correlation: the hidden killer.
Many traders unknowingly triple their risk by opening 'Buy' positions on EURUSD, GBPUSD, and AUDUSD at the same time. These pairs are highly correlated with the US Dollar. If the Dollar spikes, all three stop-losses will hit.
Treat correlated trades as a single risk unit. If you want to trade three USD pairs, split your 1% risk across all three, rather than 1% each.
