Best Time to Trade a Funded Account: Sessions, Overlaps and Dead Hours

Session timing decides your spread, your volatility and your drawdown risk. Here is when to trade each major market.

Best Time to Trade a Funded Account: Sessions, Overlaps and Dead Hours

When you trade shapes your results more than most indicator choices do. Volatility, spread and liquidity all move on a schedule.

The three sessions (UTC)

Asia โ€” 00:00 to 09:00. Lower volatility, tighter ranges. Best for AUD, NZD and JPY pairs, and for range strategies. Spreads on European crosses are poor.

London โ€” 08:00 to 16:30. The highest-volume FX session. EURUSD, GBPUSD and gold move here. The first two hours produce the day's directional move more often than not.

New York โ€” 13:00 to 21:00. US data, indices, and the continuation or reversal of the London move.

The overlap

13:00 to 16:00 UTC โ€” London and New York open together. Best liquidity, tightest spreads, largest ranges. It is also where a careless position size meets the fastest price movement of the day. Most funded accounts breach their daily floor in this window.

Dead hours

Around 21:00 to 23:00 UTC liquidity thins out, spreads widen, and rollover fees hit. Range breakouts in this window fail at a much higher rate. There is no edge in being awake for it.

The discipline point

Pick one window and trade only it for a month. Traders who trade "whenever they are free" are sampling four different markets and calling it one strategy. Your journal cannot find an edge in noise that changes character every session.

Your MixFunded dashboard counts trading days, so a consistent daily window shows up clearly in your record โ€” and consistency is exactly what a funded desk is looking for.
