How to Pass a Prop Firm Challenge: A Realistic 30-Day Plan

Most traders do not fail an evaluation because they cannot read a chart. They fail because they treat a 30-day process like a 3-day sprint.
Start from the rules, not the target
On a MixFunded evaluation the constraints are simple: a 3% maximum daily drawdown and a profit target set by your program. Write both numbers down in currency, not percentages. On a $100,000 account, 3% is $3,000 โ that is your daily floor, and it is measured against your equity, so floating losses count.
Fix your risk per trade first
A sensible ceiling is 0.5% per trade. That gives you six losing trades in a day before you are near the daily floor, and in practice you should stop well before that.
| Risk per trade | Losers to hit the 3% floor |
|---|---|
| 0.25% | 12 |
| 0.5% | 6 |
| 1% | 3 |
| 2% | 1.5 |
Anything at 2% is a coin flip on whether a bad morning ends your account.
Build a daily stop, then obey it
Set a personal daily stop at roughly 1%, a third of the hard limit. Hit it and you are done for the session. The hard limit should never be something you can reach โ it should be a rule you never come close to.
Do the target maths backwards
If the target is 8% and you take an average of 1 to 2 setups per session, you do not need a big month. You need roughly 0.4% per trading day over 20 sessions. Framed that way, a single clean trade per day is enough.
Trade one or two instruments
Every additional symbol adds correlation you did not budget for. Long EURUSD and short USDCHF is one position with extra commission. Pick a pair and an index, or gold and one major, and learn how they behave in your session.
Track trading days
Evaluations count active days for a reason: consistency is the thing being measured. Your MixFunded dashboard tracks trading days automatically alongside your equity curve, so you can see whether you are building a record or spiking one.
Checklist before you start
- Risk per trade written down in dollars
- Personal daily stop at one third of the hard floor
- Maximum two open positions
- A session you actually trade, not "whenever"
- A journal entry for every trade, win or lose
Pass rates go up when the process is boring. That is the whole trick.
Entry to a MixFunded evaluation starts at $5, so the cost of running this plan properly is lower than the cost of one impulsive trade.
