MT4 vs MT5 for Prop Trading: Which Platform Should You Choose?

If you are starting a funded account today, the platform question is mostly settled — but the reasons matter more than the verdict.
Where MT5 wins
- 21 timeframes against MT4's nine, including the 2H, 3H and 8H that many session traders actually want
- A far faster, multi-threaded strategy tester with real tick data
- Native economic calendar in the terminal
- Depth of market and more order types
- Genuine multi-asset support: FX, indices, commodities, stocks
Where MT4 still holds on
- An enormous library of legacy EAs and indicators written in MQL4
- Slightly lighter on old hardware
- Familiarity — a decade of muscle memory is a real feature
Hedging and netting
MT5 supports both hedging and netting account modes. If you run strategies with opposing positions in the same symbol, confirm which mode your account uses before you place the second leg. On a netting account it closes the first one.
What matters on a funded account
Execution and reporting. Your firm reads the account statement, so the platform that produces clean, complete history is the one that protects you in a payout review. MT5's reporting is better.
Running it properly
- Use a VPS if you run automation, so a home internet drop does not orphan a position
- Set your chart timezone to match the server, or your session logic will be an hour out twice a year
- Check the symbol suffix on your broker feed before an EA fails to find "EURUSD"
MixFunded accounts
All MixFunded trading accounts are issued on the LHFXSA-Trade server, with credentials emailed once the account goes live. Connect with the login, password and server exactly as issued — and on funded accounts, leave the password as it is.
